Local Testimony 2023
The exhibition Local Testimony 2023 will open as planned on the evening of December 5, 2023, with a low-key opening event, and will be on show for two months until February 3, 2024. See below for the list of photographers whose works were chosen to appear in the exhibition by the jury and curator Anat Saragusti.
Twenty Years of Testimony
Local Testimony, founded in 2003, is celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year with an exhibition to be displayed in a special gallery in parallel with Local Testimony 2023. The exhibition is curated by Vardi Kahana and Ami Steinitz in cooperation with Dana Wohlfeiler Lalkin, as a video installation created by the artist Ran Slavin.
The October 7 War
The war broke out a month after we finished making the selection from the photos submitted for Local Testimony 2023. In consequence we applied to photographers with journalists’ cards whose work had appeared in the last four years of Local Testimony and invited them to submit documentation from the duration of the war, from the conflict zone or the home front. The photos selected by the Local Testimony board will be exhibited as a war journal on a special video screen as part of the Local Testimony 2023 exhibition.
The video opens with a sequence showing the penetration by terrorists on hang-gliders documented by Roee Idan before he was murdered in the horrific massacre perpetrated by terrorists in Kibbutz Kfar Aza.
The Union of Journalists in Israel has initiated a special commemoration prize to honor his memory.
World Press Photo
Due to transportation difficulties during the war, the World Press Photo exhibition will not be mounted this year.
