Kfar Darom was evacuated of its residents on 18 August 2005 and its houses were destroyed later. Residents of Kfar Darom fervently opposed the disengagement plan. About 250 people fortified themselves on the roof of the settlement’s synagogue. The evacuation of the synagogue involved violent clashes between the settlers and the police and IDF forces that had to disperse the protesters with water hoses. In the picture young people who opposed the disengagement are fortified on the roof of the Kfar Darom synagogue and are trying to prevent, with the help of iron rods, the landing on the roof of a shipping container full of evacuation forces.
