Following the July 2018 Surrogacy Act passed in the Knesset, discriminating against same-sex couples, the gay community called for a general strike on Tisha B'Av, protesting baseless hatred. On the morning of the strike, a demonstration was held near Kiryat Hamemshala (the government compound) in Tel Aviv and demonstrators blocked Ayalon Highway.
