At the end of August this year Tel Aviv’s Mann Auditorium presented the new Israeli musical The One Who Dreamed inspired by the life story of Yitzhak Rabin. The musical shows Israeli history in detail with its wars and catastrophes via the story of Yitzhak Rabin. Among the actors are Gila Almagor (Leah Rabin) and Hani Nahmias. Although expected to be a great success, the critics panned the musical as a failure and it is not clear why it neglected to tell much about its ostensible subject, Yitzhak Rabin’s life. Making exaggerated and unjustified use of tunes to signify times and events, The One Who Dreamed is an initial attempt to give a theatrical overview of the life of Yitzhak Rabin and occasionally manages to be moving.
